Sponge cake is the basic and simple variety of cake which is easy to cook. This is also called tea cake. Here we are going to see how to cook cake without using oven.

Ingredients:
All purpose flour/Maida maavu- 1 cup
Melted Butter or Oil- ½ Cup
Egg- 4
Powdered Sugar – 1cup
Baking Soda- ½ teaspoon
Vanilla Essence- ½ teaspoon
Milk- 1 cup

How to make egg cake:
  • Mix the all-purpose flour and baking soda and sieve them.
  • Beat the butter and powdered sugar with a beater till it become creamy (you can also use blender to make it fast)
  • Beat the egg separately till it mixes well and start to foam.
  • Now add the beaten egg with butter-sugar mixture and mix well.
  • Drop ½ tsp vanilla essence and beat well.
  • Add the all-purpose flour-baking soda mixture little by little and mix without lumps.
  • Now add the milk in the above beaten mixture and mix well.
  • Pour this mix in the greased cake mould and tap it for the batter to spread evenly. Seal the top of the cake mould with aluminium foil.
  • Take a vessel in which the greased mould can get fixed freely.
  • Place a stand in the base of the vessel and pour water in it. Allow the water to boil and then place the plate with cake mixture in it. Place a wet cloth on top of the vessel and close with lid. (Placing cloth is optional which will help to speed up the cooking process) 

  • Place a lid and cook for 30-40 minute.Check it by inserting tooth pick in the cake which should come out clean.
  • Cool it and transfer the cake to serve by slicing.
