Vaazhaikai podimas


Vaazhaikai podimas is a simple recipe to make and goes with rice as side dish.

Ingredients:
Raw banana - 1 medium
Onion - 1 medium (chopped)

For masala:
Red chilli - 5 nos
Coriander seed - ½ tsp
Cumin seed - ½ tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Channa dal - 1 tsp
Peanut - 1 tbsp
Sesame seed - ½ tsp
Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
Hing - ¼ tsp
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Coconut - tbsp
Salt - as required

For temper:
Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard - ¼ tsp
Cumin seed - ¼ tsp
Curry leaves - 1 sprig

How to prepare of vaazhaikai podimas:
  • Wash the banana and cook in boiling water till the skin colour change to black.
  • Allow to cool and remove the skin. Grated the cooked banana and keep it aside.
  • Dry roast the masala ingredients seeds, nuts, dal, curry leaves and red chilli in low flame for 2mins, allow to cool and transfer to mixer jar along with turmeric powder, hing and salt. Grind them to coarse powder.
  • In a pan temper the mustard, cumin and curry leaves with oil, add the onion and saute till transculent, now add the ground masala and mix well. Finally add the cooked grated raw banana and stir well for a minute. Vaazhaikai podimas is ready to serve.
