Moong dal halwa



This Moong dal halwa is one which my grandma used to prepare frequently for me. My all time favourite recipe.

Ingredients:
Moong dal - 2tbsp
Raw rice - 2tbsp
Coconut - 2tbsp
Jaggery powder - 5-6tbsp
Salt - a pinch
Ghee - 2tbsp
Water - 360ml**
**6 times of Moong dal and raw rice. ie: if raw rice and moong dal mixed together is 1cup add 6 cups of water

How to prepare moong dal halwa:
  • Dry roast the moong dal then wash and soak moong dal and raw rice for 3-4hours.
  • Drain the water and add them to a mixer jar. Add coconut and jaggery powder into the jar. Grind them to fine smooth paste by adding some water.
  • Transfer it to a heavy bottom kadai, add water and stir it continuously.
  • Once it starts getting thick add ghee little by little and keep stirring till it leaves the sides of the kadai.
  • Transfer it to a greased plate and slice it after it reaches the room temperature.


Tips:
  • Melt the jaggery and filter it before use if it contains impurities.
  • Add fried nuts if required.
