Appam is a south Indian recipe easy to prepare and
loved by everyone. This is Kerala style Appam recipes without using yeast
which my Grandma used to prepare.

Ingredients:
Raw rice/Pacharisi- 2 cup
Coconut- ½ cup
Coconut- ½ cup
Water- As required
Salt- As required
Baking soda- a pinch
Oil- For making Appam
*1cup=185ml
How to make appam:
- Wash and soak rice minimum of 4hours.
- Grind it along with coconut as a smooth paste by adding water little by little.
- Take a handful of batter in a pan and add with 1 and ½ cup of water and mix it well.
- In a low flame stir it continuously till it becomes a thick paste. Allow them to cool and add this along with batter and mix well.
- Keep the batter in room temperature to ferment for 8 hours or overnight.
- When you ready to prepare take the amount of batter which is required to prepare. Add salt, baking soda and required amount of water and mix well to bring the batter consistency.
- In the appam pan grease the oil and pour a ladle full of batter. Hold both side of the pan and swirl the pan. Cover it using the lid and cook in medium flame till the sides start to remove from the pan. Transfer it to a plate.
- Serve with coconut milk or with veg or non veg gravy.
- While grinding batter you can add 1 tbsp of cooked rice to increase softness while grinding batter.
- Coconut water can be used for grinding.
- You can use piece of onion to grease the oil in tawa.
- You can prepare appam in dosa tawa also by closing it by a lid.
- If the appam needs to be brown add 1 tsp sugar to the batter before start preparing Appam.
- You can also add ponni/pulungal rice and pacharisi/raw rice in 1:1 ratio.
- You can also add 1tbsp of urad dal while soaking the rice.
