Kerala Parippu Curry - Onam sadya

Kerala Parippu Curry is easy to prepare and served with white rice and ghee. This is prepared during onam for sadya. This is made using moong dal and coconut, you can also use thoor dal for this preparation.

Ingredients:

Moong dal- ½ cup

Onion- 1small

Coconut- ¼ cup (grated)

Garlic- 2cloves

Cumin seeds- ¼ tsp + ¼ tsp

Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp

Green chilli- 1

Red chilli- 1

Salt-as required

Coconut oil- 1tbsp

Mustard- ¼ tsp

Curry leaves- 2sprig

How to prepare Kerala Parippu Curry:

  • Wash the moong dal and pressure cook in low flame along with salt and turmeric powder till soft.
  • Once pressure released completely mash the dal completely.
  • In a mixer jar add coconut, ¼ tsp cumin, garlic, green chilli to paste. Add this paste to mashed dal, add water if required and boil for 5mins.
  • Meanwhile temper the mustard, cumin, curry leaves, red chilli in coconut oil and saute the onion till soft. Add this to dal curry. Serve Kerala Parippu Curry with hot rice and ghee.
